Procedures for determining the body’s reaction to various substances by injecting a small quantity of the substance under the skin or by applying it to the skin (usually on patches). Patch tests are used in the diagnosis of contact allergic dermatitis. They can also be used to test immunity to certain infectious diseases (such as in the tuberculin test).
