Scleritis

Inflammation of the sclera that usually accompanies a collagen disease such as rheumatoid arthritis. Scleritis also occurs in herpes zoster ophthalmicus and Wegener’s granulomatosis. It may lead to areas of thinning and perforation of the sclera. It is usually persistent but often responds to corticosteroid eye-drops.
