Metabolic disorders that result in abnormal amounts of lipids (fats) in the body. The most common lipid disorders are the hyperlipidaemias, which are characterized by high levels of lipids in the blood and can cause atherosclerosis and pancreatitis. There are also some very rare lipid disorders due solely to heredity, such as Tay–Sachs disease.
