Hyperplasia

Enlargement of an organ or tissue due to an increase in the number of its cells. The new cells are normal, unlike those of a tumour. Hyperplasia is usually the result of hormonal stimulation. It may occur normally (such as in the enlargement of breast tissue in pregnancy) or it may indicate a disorder. (See also hypertrophy.)
