Nonmedical use of heroin. Heroin addiction has many adverse effects on the user, including injection scars, skin abscesses, weight loss, impotence, and the risk of infection with hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV through sharing needles. Death commonly occurs from accidental overdose.
