An abbreviation for eutetic mixture of local anaesthetics. This is a cream that is applied to the skin to produce local anaesthesia (see anaesthesia, local). EMLA is used to reduce discomfort before intravenous injection and venepuncture, particularly in children, and in skin grafting.
