Cardiovascular surgery includes operations to prevent or repair damage caused, for example, by congenital heart disease (see heart disease, congenital), atherosclerosis, or a myocardial infarction (heart attack). Procedures include heart valve surgery, coronary artery bypass, and heart transplant.
