Arthrodesis

A surgical procedure in which the 2 bones in a diseased joint are fused to prevent the joint from moving, which relieves pain. Arthrodesis is performed if a joint is painful or unstable and other treatments such as drugs or arthroplasty have failed or are inappropriate.
